Advocacy

Advocacy is your right to be heard. It means having someone in your corner who helps you speak out about things that matter to you, ensuring you are involved in decisions being made about your life.

If you’re struggling to get your voice heard, or feel too nervous to speak, an advocate is there to support you and make sure people listen.

If you need help speaking to someone or getting your point across, our advisers can step in.

We can:

  • Help you prepare: Figure out what you want to say so you feel confident speaking for yourself (Self-advocacy)
  • Speak for you: Contact people on your behalf using your exact words (Advocacy)
  • Set up a 3-way call: Join a phone call with you so we can support you live and help you understand what’s happening

You can ask for advocacy in almost any situation where you need help speaking up. For example:

  • School: Dealing with bullying and wanting help to talk to teachers
  • Doctors: Wanting to see a doctor about anxiety but feeling nervous about booking the appointment
  • Social Services: Feeling unhappy with something going on with social services and needing help expressing your views

Getting help is simple. Reach out to Meic, and our advisers will work with you to find the best approach for your situation.
